This Valentine's Day, the attention of the racing world will be on Daytona Beach, Florida, as NASCAR revs up for one of its most anticipated races: the Daytona 500. Race car driver Denny Hamlin will attempt to join the elite group of NASCAR competitors who have won the competition at least four times. Old-school champions Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough are the only other drivers who have accomplished this feat.
First airing live on television in 1979, the race earned its status as a trailblazer by changing how millions of Americans consumed the sport of racing. Fans could now enjoy the Daytona 500 without the hassle of visiting a Florida speedway, and racing was able to break into mainstream culture like never before.
Last year's race ended on a frightening note, with driver Ryan Newman in serious condition at the hospital after an accident during the final lap. Newman was able to recover, but other drivers who have been in wrecks during the Daytona 500 have not been as fortunate. In 2001, racing legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. was tragically killed in a last lap crash.
The 200-lap race will be held at Daytona International Speedway on February 14. In addition to Hamlin, I'm keeping my eyes on Joey Logano, Kyle Larson, and Ryan Blaney as top contenders.
Below, we detailed how you can watch the event via Fox and several live TV streaming services so you can catch every lap from the comfort of your living room with snacks in hand. From personal experience, I know that the best snacks for pairing with the Daytona 500 are a seven layer bean dip, tortilla chips, and a six-pack of PBR.
How to watch the Daytona 500
The Daytona 500 starts at 2:30 p.m. ET. on February 14, and the race will be broadcast on Fox. If your current pay-TV service includes Fox, you can simply watch the event on cable or through the Fox Sports app.
If you don't have cable, there are several live TV streaming services with access to Fox that we recommend, including Sling TV, FuboTV, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and AT&T TV.
Live TV services with Fox
Sling TV is the most economical live streaming service with access to the Daytona 500. The Sling Blue plan costs $35 a month and features Fox in select markets. In addition to Fox, this package offers a total of around 45 live channels.
Sling customers who are looking for more channels and additional sports to watch might want to check out the Sling Orange + Blue with Sports Extra bundle. This package costs $65 a month and features around 75 live channels including Fox, NBC, ESPN, MLB Network, and NFL RedZone.
FuboTV offers a seven-day free trial for new subscribers, and their Family plan costs $65 a month for over one hundred live channels, including Fox in most markets. Sports fans who enjoy using FuboTV might want to check out the Sports Plus with NFL RedZone channel add-on that is available for an additional $11 a month.
YouTube TV is similar to FuboTV in that it offers a free trial period for new subscribers and charge $65 for its basic plan. It features fewer channels than FuboTV, claiming to have around 85, but the lineup includes Fox.
Another streaming option for watching the Daytona 500 is Hulu + Live TV. Like most of its competition, Hulu + Live TV offers a base plan of $65 a month and provides a free one-week trial period. In comparison to the above two streaming options, its currently has the fewest number of live channels, claiming to have over 65 at that price point. Fox is included, however, and as a nice bonus, you also get access to Hulu's entire library of on-demand shows and movies.
AT&T TV is another online streaming option that includes Fox in select markets. The Entertainment package costs $70 a month for over 65 live channels. You can get a cheaper monthly price if you sign up for a two-year contract. AT&T TV also offers several higher priced packages with more channels, which makes it very similar to a traditional cable service.
