The Antarctic Ice Marathon is an annual event in which runners brave snow, ice, and bitterly cold temperatures.

The athletes run around the Union Glacier exploration camp which is 600 miles from the South Pole.

All competitors wear goggles, gloves, and balaclavas. This year, the men's race winner was Ireland's Gary Thornton with a time of 3:37.13.
